Establishing Your Future Vision of Success

Lots of clarity can come from having a strong mental vision of how you see your life lived to fulfill your purpose. There’s power in visualizing an ideal end state, which alone can produce an energy that allows you to take action. A vision of success also provides a place to work backwards from. The CareerTruth methodology states that legacy results from consistently pursuing one’s purpose. Let’s spend some time envisioning your future, one that includes your purpose being played out to your best.  We want to picture or visualize success and not be deterred by the difficulties or challenges. Visualizing is a powerful tool that professionals in all arenas use, from entertainers to educators, athletes to artists. They picture the outcome they want when they are practicing or struggling with their energy to persist through a difficult time. They will imagine the applause or the trophy. The people who will be excited for their success. The people who will benefit from their success. The sounds and the rewards. The energy and the feelings. They will visualize the smallest details to help them focus on what they want to accomplish. Clarity and motivation can come from visualizing an ideal state.

Let’s break this down into more near term visual “scenes” of your life. Let’s imagine life either five or ten years from now.  How you’re living out your values and purpose and how people are better because of it.

What is happening? Consider your family life, your home, your career, your physical health, your personal development, your spirituality. Envision how you are dressed, what is on your calendar, what your home looks like. Imagine the specifics – details provide clarity.

Consider these future Truths for yourself:

You have great Work Life Flow and have control of your time.

You are healthier, physically and mentally.

You are with people and have great relationships at home.

While your work or job is not easy or without challenges, it is fulfilling a step of your purpose for you.

You can find alignment between your work and your purpose and plans to meet your purpose.

You are working with people you like and want to work with.

You are developing in the areas you can use in the future.

You feel like you are helping others and having a positive impact at home, at work, and possibly in your community.

You are enjoying activities or places with people you want to be with for pleasure as a reward of your works.

What does your picture of success look like for you?  Imagine all of these visual scenes and take note of all of the positive emotions that come with them.

Take 10 minutes to do this and do it completely mentally at first.  Possibly take out a piece of paper and draw some of the elements you see in your vision of success.
