People are born to be loved, be in relationships, and grow. These are the seeds of being a leader that shows up in the way people care for each other and thrive. These seeds mature in three ways:
- Receiving great leadership in life.
- Being called to be a leader.
- Intentionally developing as a leader.
Receiving great leadership
The origin story of any great leader is that a great leader leads them. This interaction can be very early in life. They might be parents, a great coach, a teacher, or a great manager in their first job. The first leaders we experience would rarely have all the attributes of leadership. Their impact is not only what they may have helped you with but also how they chose to make that impact.
Because of this, we want to recognize those who have poured into you.
Whose Leadership Tree would you find yourself growing on? Those people would be the Roots of your Leadership Tree. In essence, you are building on these leaders’ legacy. Being part of a greater whole can be humbling.
Being called to be a leader
There are hundreds of books on Servant Leadership and putting others first, and the best leaders throughout time have focused on their benefit to those they serve.
Being of service is the motivational theme for being a great leader in all walks of life -at work, home, and community. Who are or have you invested in the past that you helped improve or to become a leader?
Who is growing on your Leadership Tree? We call these the Fruits that grow with your attention.
Intentional leadership development
Your Leadership Tree will grow in strength and numbers over your career and life with attention to the 15 unique developmental areas of leadership. Creating specific action plans and working with advisors and coaches will continue to fertilize your impact.
Think back to those people YOU would be considered the fruit of their Leadership Tree. You are the multiplier effect of their legacy. You received, and now you must give. The more effective you are at leading with the good of others in mind, the bigger your legacy.
