Power of Assessments and Using Them Well

Aristotle famously said, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” This is why foundational career management work begins with Professional and Personal Inventories of YOU. Still, this is not a one time consideration. You are not the same from day to day. Each moment, experience, relationship, person, or activity feeds the way we think, perceive, and assess the next moment. This is why inventories, Roses and Thorns, and the Vault are designed to capture notable moments and ongoing learning. It’s hard to know what you want to do in the future without knowing who you have been. While input from others is important, true development comes from the accuracy and continuous learning of self first.

A great assessment will help you reflect on past performance and give a new level of understanding on how and why you came to the result – from a deeper level of your values, perceptions, fears, and motivations. DiSC, Enneagram, MBTI, StrengthsFinders, Kolbe and others all have great worth and tells someone different things about themselves. If you have already taken these, we encourage you to upload the reports to your Vault so you can reflect on them where appropriate.

CareerTruth utilizes the Hogan as it’s a preferred assessment used among high level leadership ranks and carries much credibility within the industry. As CareerTruth is a strategic investment in managing your career well, Hogan is a strategic assessment that allows a deeper level analysis on your personality, behaviors and “watch-out” spots for the sake of awareness. Hogan is considered a “weapon of choice” of many of the world’s top companies for predicting performance from CEO to first level contributors. CareerTruth wants you to be well armed with all the best information to know yourself that feeds your personal and professional development leading to your best legacy outcomes. This Hogan Assessment and one hour consulting session is a purposeful high caliber offering to match the level of commitment you’ve made to managing and planning your career well.

In taking any assessment, but specifically the Hogan, you want to invest the proper time and be in the right mindset to work through the three nearly 20 minutes sections for thoroughness and accuracy. Remember, there is no “right” or “wrong” when it comes to the assessment results. The intent is to help validate what you already know and introduce new insights around your strengths and potential derailers. You will have time to reflect on the results with a CareerTruth approved Hogan Consultant to make sure you have a great understanding to apply in your professional and personal applications. In the following steps, you will click to start the Hogan process and ultimately set time to meet with your Hogan Consultant to review your results and action plans.

People who embrace this level of truth in self knowledge and apply the findings experience a more peaceful and rewarding life. As Confusious said: “The more you know yourself, the more you forgive yourself.” This humility lowers the false stories, false expectations, the fears, and perceived judgment.  The truth is apparent and freeing. When we realize the truth that we are all awesomely unique and understand where it comes from, we are more likely to see others in their own beautiful uniqueness and be more thoughtful in our approach.

As a practical matter, if you know why you act, or react, the way you do, we can self regulate ourselves better in the most important moments.  We can also make better choices in how we impact others for better outcomes. All this adds up to better development, better performance, and fulfillment of purpose.
